Description:	The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) is a regional union or community which includes eight East African countries.
Summary:	IGAD’s role is to enhance regional cooperation in three priority areas of food security and environmental protection, economic cooperation, regional integration and social development, peace and security.

Issue areas covered:	IGAD validated a Regional AW Strategy (RAWS) and Action Plan in August 2016. Work is now underway to develop National AW Strategies (NAWS) to implement the RAWS.

Requirements for participation:	IGAD is open to collaboration with APOs.
Advocacy Opportunities:
The RAWS provides an opportunity to monitor and advocate on implementation. There is also significant scope for implementation support. The development of NAWS and national implementation also provide advocacy opportunities. International APOs could support national APOs in this regard.
