Description: The Livestock Global Alliance is a grouping of international organizations having a global mandate in the livestock sector. Its members are committed to working together in order to pursue a “safer, fairer and more sustainable livestock sector around the world.”
Summary:

The Global Alliance describes its overall objective as “to ensure access to clear, science-based information upon which the public – from consumers to policymakers – can better understand the sector and its global public good dimension.”

Its specific objectives are to:

  • Identify and analyze strategic issues – such as health, food and nutrition security, environment and equity – in order to inform and influence the sustainable development of the livestock sector worldwide
  • Advocate for the increased presence of livestock on the global agenda by articulating its contributions to global development issues.

They seek to organize evidence to support the case of livestock; directly addressing the harm as well as benefits generated by the sector; learning from successes and failures to design and implement the most appropriate programs and policies; exploiting advances in our understanding of complex systems and powerful new technologies; and building on existing successful initiatives.
