Introduction

This module explains the importance of monitoring and evaluation (M&E) in strategic advocacy. It examines the inclusion of M&E criteria in advocacy planning, and how M&E should be carried out. In addition to the use of M&E in evaluating and improving your own animal welfare advocacy work, we will look at the important role of the animal welfare movement in assessing (and thus encouraging) policy change.

Learning objectives:

  • To understand what M&E is (and the difference between the two), and the importance of M&E in strategic advocacy.
  • To understand the use of M&E in assessing and improving the effectiveness of advocacy work.
  • To learn how to effectively include M&E in the planning and implementation of advocacy work.
  • To consider how to assess and record advocacy M&E.
  • To examine the use of M&E in assessing and driving policy change.
